China and India Hold the 24th Meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on Border Affairs

    On May 31st, 2022, Mr. Hong Liang, Director-General of the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs of the Foreign Ministry and Mr. Naveen Srivastava, Additional Secretary of the East Asia Division of the Ministry of External Affairs of India co-chaired the 24th Meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on China-India Border Affairs via video link. Representatives from departments related to diplomacy, national defense, and immigration of both countries attended the meeting.

    The two sides had a candid and in-depth exchange of views on the current situation in the China-India border areas. Both sides agreed to earnestly implement the important consensus reached by the leaders and the foreign ministers of both countries, make efforts to further ease and de-escalate the border situation, and jointly maintain the peace and stability in the border areas. Both sides agreed to maintain dialogue and communication through diplomatic and military channels, hold the 16th round of the China-India Corps Commander Level Meeting at an early date, and settle the remaining issue in the western sector of the China-India boundary in accordance with the principle of mutual and equal security.
