CPC to Convene 18th National Congress on Nov. 8

BEIJING, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- The 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) is proposed to convene on Nov. 8 in Beijing.

The Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee decided at a meeting on Friday to submit the proposal to the seventh plenary meeting of the 17th CPC Central Committee, which will be held on Nov. 1.

The Political Bureau meeting, presided over by Hu Jintao, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, studied the preparatory work for the November meetings.

Participants of the meeting also reviewed the draft work report of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection to be submitted to the upcoming Party congress.

The congress is a very important meeting to be held at a critical time when China is building a moderately prosperous society in an all-round way, and deepening reform and opening up and accelerating the transformation of economic development pattern in difficult areas, the meeting said.

The congress will hold high the banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics, be guided with the Deng Xiaoping Theory and the important thoughts of "Three Represents," and thoroughly carry out the Scientific Outlook on Development, according to the meeting.

The congress will review the Party's work over the past five years as well as what the Party has implemented since the 16th CPC National Congress.

It will summarize the precious experience the Party has gained from the historical process of uniting and leading the people of all ethnic groups to carry on and advance the socialism with Chinese characteristics, according to the meeting.

The congress will thoroughly examine the current international and domestic situation and take into account of the new requirements for the country's development and new expectations from the people.

The congress will draw out the guidelines and policies that respond to the call of the times and fulfill the wishes of the people.

The congress will make strategic plans for the overall advancement of China's reform and opening up and socialist modernization drive, as well as for the overall advancement of Party building in the new era.

The congress will further mobilize the entire Party and the people of all ethnic groups to march unswervingly along the road of socialism with Chinese characteristics, continue to advance scientific development and promote social harmony, and continue to improve people's livelihood and well-being, and strive for the building of a moderately prosperous society in an all-round way.

A new CPC Central Committee and a new Central Commission for Discipline Inspection will be elected at the congress, according to the meeting.

All preparatory work for the congress is going smoothly at present and preparations should be continued earnestly to ensure a successful congress, according to the meeting.

The meeting approved that the draft work report of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection to be submitted to the Party's 18th National Congress will be discussed at the seventh plenary meeting of the 17th CPC Central Committee.
