Chinese FM Meets Brunei Second Minister of Foreign Affairs,Trade

On July 10, 2012, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met with Brunei Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Lim Jock Seng on the sidelines of the ASEAN foreign meetings in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Yang Jiechi said that China-Brunei relations enjoy good momentum of growth, as evidenced by frequent high-level exchanges, enhanced political mutual trust, deepened practical cooperation in economic, trade, energy and other fields, and expanded people-to- people and cultural exchanges and cooperation. China-Brunei relations set an example of relations between countries with different social systems based on mutual respect and equality.

Yang said that China-ASEAN relationship has achieved continued progress since the dialogue relations started in 1991. China attaches great importance to its strategic partnership with ASEAN and wants to work with ASEAN to advance practical cooperation.

Yang expressed the hope that Brunei will continue to play a positive role and work with China to uphold the larger picture of China-ASEAN cooperation.

Lim Jock Seng said that Brunei is satisfied with the steady progress in China-Brunei relations and will continue to work with China for friendly cooperation. Brunei will take over as the ASEAN Chair next year and will work with other parties to promote fresh progress in ASEAN-China mutually beneficial cooperation.
