Chinese Ambassador Zhang Yan Holds Press Briefing and Accepts Interview on the Third BRICS Leaders Meeting

Chinese Ambassador to India Zhang Yan held a press briefing on April 13, 2011 and expounded on the forthcoming Third BRICS Leaders Meeting and reviewed the development and prospect of the China-India relations. Foreign affairs journalists from the India's National Television-Doordarshan TV, India's biggest news agency-Press Trust of India, India's major English newspaper the Hindu attended the press briefing.

Ambassador Zhang said the BRICS Leaders Meeting with its theme "Broad vision and shared prosperity" has attracted widespread attention from the international community. The BRICS cooperation mechanism complies with the progress of international situation and also reflected the common will and choice for cooperation of the emerging economies. The BRICS countries share a lot in common. They are in the similar stage of development and face the same historical task of developing their economies and improving the well-being of their people. Meanwhile, the BRICS countries enjoy highly complementary advantages and solid foundation for extensive cooperation to promote common development based on equality and mutual benefit. BRICS countries are working closely on issues like food and energy security, the Doha Round of trade talks, climate change and reform of international financial institutions. Through this cooperation, the BRICS countries protected the interests of their own and the international community at large and increased the voice and representation of the emerging economies and the developing countries as well.

Ambassador Zhang shared his outlook on the positive results of the Meeting and expressed his belief that this Meeting could send the signal of "confidence, solidarity, cooperation and win-win" to the international community.
