Chinese Ambassador Zhang Yan Holds a Farewell Function for 500-Member Indian Youth Delegation to China

On September 19, 2011, Chinese Ambassador to India Zhang Yan held a function for 500-member Indian youth delegation before their departure for China. Mr. Ajay Maken, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mrs Sindhushree, Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, all delegates and Chinese diplomats attended the function.

Ambassador Zhang Yan extended a very warm welcome to the delegation. He said that Chinese Premier Wen Jiaobao during his visit to India last December invited, on behalf of the Chinese government, a 500-member Indian youth delegation to visit China. It is a memorable event in the history of friendly exchanges between youth of China and India as well as an important part of the "Year of China-India Exchange" in 2011, bearing strategic significance.

Ambassador Zhang pointed out that the youth is the future of the world. He hoped that through visits and interactions with Chinese young people, all members of the delegation would have a better knowledge and understanding of China and Chinese people, deepen friendship between China and India and push forward the bilateral relations. Ambassador Zhang wished the youth delegation a successful and pleasant journey to China.

                   

Mr. Maken thanked for Chinese Embassy's kind invitation. He said he had been to China thrice and got deeply impressed. The scale of the delegation this time marking the youth exchanges between the two countries entered a new stage of development. He said that during the visit, the youth from both sides will exchange friendship and share happiness. He firmly believed that with joint efforts of the Indian and Chinese governments, such kind of youth exchange will sow the seeds of friendship for the future of India-China relations.

                   

The delegation will visit China from September 20 to 29, 2011. The delegation will first gather in Beijing to participate in large-scale exchanges and social activities with Chinese young people. Then they will head for Xi'an, Zhengzhou, Nanjing, Shanghai, Wuhan, Guangzhou and other cities. The delegation is consisted of youth representatives from all states of India, including one-tenth of them from several Indian national political parties.

On September 18, 2011, the delegation had also launched a grand opening ceremony for this visit at the weightlifting stadium in Nehru Sports Center, New Delhi.
