On September 19, 2014, President Xi Jinping met in New Delhi with President of the Indian National Congress Party (INC) Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Xi Jinping appreciated that Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh are old friends of the Chinese people, and have made important contributions to developing China-India relations for a long time. Xi Jinping pointed out that it is the industrious efforts of the generations of leaders of the two countries that have contributed to today's results in China-India relations. In 1988, the then-Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi of India, Mme. Sonia's late husband, visited China and reached important consensus with Mr. Deng Xiaoping on restarting China-India relations, which was an ice-breaking trip of historical significance and marked a new chapter in China-India relations. Under the care and support of Mme. Sonia and Mr. Singh, China and India established strategic cooperative partnership for peace and prosperity. In recent years, China-India relations have achieved substantive development, bringing tangible benefits to both peoples and making positive contribution to peace and development in the region and the world at large.

Xi Jinping stressed that both China and India are now committed to realizing national rejuvenation and what they cherish most is peace and development and what they need most is a stable and friendly neighborhood, therefore, both countries should hold firmer belief and join hands and cooperate to create the future. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and I reached multiple important consensuses on developing bilateral relations and I am satisfied with the results of the visit. The Communist Party of China (CPC) and the INC have long maintained a friendly relationship, and both sides should continuously enhance exchanges and communicate on the experience of party building, state governance and organization building. We hope and believe that the INC and you yourselves will, as always, pay attention to and support the development of China-India relations. I welcome you to visit China more often in future.

Sonia Gandhi expressed that President Xi Jinping's visit to India is a success and both sides reached multiple cooperative agreements. The INC and she herself congratulate this. Developing India-China relations is a consensus of all parties in India and they all know the importance of India-China relations. The INC is willing to continuously strengthen inter-party exchanges with China and work to advance bilateral relations.

Singh said that in today's international arena, India-China relations are becoming more and more important and are embracing greater development opportunities. The INC and he himself would like to, together with other parties, devote to enhancing India-China friendly cooperation.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu and Yang Jiechi attended the meeting.
