Exhibition of Chinese Wash Paintings Titled the Charismatic Tiger Opens in New Delhi

In the evening of November 3, 2010, The Charismatic Tiger, an Exhibition of Select Chinese Wash Paintings was solemnly opened at Visual Arts Gallery, India Habitat Center, New Delhi. Over 160 guests from all walks of life attended the inauguration, including Chinese Ambassador to India, H.E. Zhang Yan and Madam Chen Wangxia, Yu Daxi, vice Chairman of the Jiangxi Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Dr. Alka Pande, Consultant Arts Advisor and Curator of Visual Arts Gallery, other diplomatic envoys, friendly organizations, and overseas Chinese in India.

2010 is the Chinese Year of the Tiger. With the subject of tiger, all the 49 paintings displayed at the exhibition depict tigers in various postures, reflecting the Chinese’ understanding and affection for tiger in different ways. The majority of them are painted by well-known Chinese masters. As the king of beasts, tiger is also loved by the Indian people and viewed as their national beast.

The year of 2010 coincides with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and India. The exhibition reflects the Chinese people’s friendly feelings about the Indian people, and strengthens their mutual understanding and communication by Chinese ink and wash. Meanwhile, the exhibition conveys the artists’ care for nature and harmonious ecology.
