On November 13, 2019 local time, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India in Brasilia.

Xi Jinping pointed out, I had a successful meeting with you in Chennai not long ago, during which we had in-depth discussions on the international and regional situation and major issues in bilateral relations. The meeting went very well. Relevant departments of the two countries are implementing our consensus reached during the Chennai meeting to extend and expand its positive effects. India participated in the second China International Import Expo (CIIE) as a Guest of Honor Country last week. As we have learned, among all participating countries, India had the largest increase in transaction volume at the expo compared with last year. The Chinese side welcomes more exports of India's high-quality products to China. Both sides need to expand two-way trade and investment and create new growth points for cooperation in production capacity, medicine, information technology, infrastructure construction and other fields. We should ensure the success of the celebration activities for the China-India year of cultural and people-to-people exchange and the 70th anniversary of the establishment of China-India diplomatic relations in 2020 to promote non-governmental friendship. China and India should work together to uphold multilateralism, safeguard the multilateral trading system with the World Trade Organization (WTO) at its core, jointly safeguard the legitimate development rights, interests and space of developing countries, and promote steady and sustained cooperation among the BRICS countries.

Xi Jinping stressed, I am willing to maintain close communication with you to jointly steer the direction of China-India relations, increase political mutual trust, properly manage differences and expand practical cooperation so as to guide better and more stable development of bilateral relations. The year 2020 is coming. I hope China-India relations will make new and greater progress in the new year. I am looking forward to meeting with you again in China next year.

Narendra Modi expressed, we met twice in Wuhan and Chennai, which has strengthened trust and friendship. A lot of important consensus reached by us is being implemented. The Indian side congratulates China on the success of the second CIIE, and India hopes to constantly expand bilateral trade and investment with the Chinese side and enhance cooperation in energy and other fields. India is ready to work with China to make the activities celebrating the 70th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations and the China-India year of cultural and people-to-people exchanges a success. I am looking forward to keeping close contact with you and properly managing differences to lead bilateral relationship to achieve more results and constantly elevate it to new highs.

Ding Xuexiang, Yang Jiechi, Wang Yi, He Lifeng and others were present.
