On April 17, the Embassy of China in India, together with the Russian Centre of Science and Culture, jointly hosted a screening of the Chinese film Cliff Walkers in New Delhi. Approximately 120 Indian students and faculty members from Jawaharlal Nehru University, the University of Delhi, and other institutions, as well as representatives from the film and arts community, attended the event. The atmosphere was warm and friendly.

Ms. Elena, Director of the Russian Centre of Science and Culture, expressed her appreciation to the Chinese Embassy in India and all attendees for their strong support of the event. In his remarks, Minister Counsellor Wang Xinming from the Chinese Embassy noted that film is a language that transcends borders and cultures, serving as an important bridge for promoting mutual learning among peoples of different countries. He suggested that outstanding films should help expand channels for international exchange and encouraged more young people to deepen their understanding of each other through cultural experiences, build friendships through dialogue, and foster consensus, thus becoming a positive force in advancing international relations.

Directed by Zhang Yimou, Cliff Walkers is set in Northeast China under the puppet regime of Manchukuo in the 1930s. The film vividly portrays the steadfast faith and spirit of sacrifice of Chinese Communists working on the covert front. With its tight narrative and well-developed characters, the film resonated strongly with the audience. Some viewers commented that the film provided them with a more intuitive understanding of China’s revolutionary history and its struggle for national independence, and helped them gain deeper insight into the Chinese Communist Party.
