On April 20, the Chinese Embassy in India hosted the 2026 International Chinese Language Day event. Ambassador Xu Feihong attended the event and delivered remarks. Nearly 160 guests took part in the event, including representatives from Indian universities and schools such as Jawaharlal Nehru University and Tagore International School, Ambassador’s spouse Tan Yuxiu, Minister Counsellor Wang Xinming, young diplomats of the Embassy and journalists.
In his remarks, Ambassador Xu stated that the Chinese language carries a vast amount of information about a civilization spanning five thousand years and embodies eastern wisdom such as "harmony in diversity". It serves as an important window into China. He noted with pleasure that Chinese language education has been developing steadily in India, and hoped that as students master the language, they will also develop a deeper understanding of China, gain advantages for their careers, and fulfill their life aspirations.
During the event, Indian teachers and students presented a rich variety of cultural performances with distinctive Chinese features. They experienced traditional Chinese arts and crafts including calligraphy, paper-cutting, tea art and ink rubbings, and visited an exhibition on the evolution of Chinese characters, thereby appreciating the unique charm of the Chinese language and gaining insight into the profound essence of Chinese culture.
