Opening Remark by Ambassador Sun Yuxi Professor

Sun Xinquan of the Education Office of Chinese Embassy Hosting the Competition
On the morning of 9 May 2007, over 100 people gathered in the function hall of the Chinese Embassy in India, among them were students and teachers from Indian universities, Chinese, Indian and international journalists. The 6th Chinese Bridge---Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Students was launched here.
In the opening remark, H.E. Mr. Sun Yuxi, Chinese Ambassador to India, read his own work titled "the Gainer and the Loser". This essay, full of moral meanings, fully expressed Ambassador Sun's earnest hopes towards the young students, because they were the future of the world, and they were shouldering momentous responsibilities of carrying forward generations-long China-India friendship as well as the educational, cultural, economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.

Earnest Audience

Professors from the Chinese Department of Delhi University and JNU
This competition was held after the preliminary contests in Indian universities. About 300 students all over India attended preliminary contests, and 19 contestants attended the final. All of them were very earnest and showed great talents. They sang Chinese songs, danced in Chinese way, or performed monolog, traditional Chinese handwriting, which embodied the profound Chinese culture and its far-reaching influence among younger generations of India.
Friendship First, Competition Second
The competition lasted about five hours. Many students felt time passed too quickly. They wish they could have more such opportunities to learn from each other, and become the gainer in the essay of Ambassador Sun. They said they would do their own bit in different areas to promote the long-term friendship between Chinese and Indian peoples. After the competition, Indian students and teachers were treated with selectively prepared Chinese foods. They enjoyed the lunch a lot and once more experienced the charming Chinese food culture.
