On the morning of September 23, 2023, President Xi Jinping met at the West Lake State Guesthouse in Hangzhou with Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni who is in China to attend the opening ceremony of the 19th Asian Games.
Noting that this year marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Cambodia and the Year of China-Cambodia Friendship, Xi Jinping recalled his two meetings with King Norodom Sihamoni, which demonstrates the deep bond of friendship between China and Cambodia as one family. He also noted that not long ago, he met in Beijing with Prime Minister Hun Manet and reached important common understandings on carrying forward the long-standing friendship and deepening the comprehensive strategic cooperation. He said that China cherishes the special friendship with the Cambodian royal family, attaches great importance to the development of China-Cambodia relations, and stands ready to work with Cambodia to deepen and substantiate the building of a China-Cambodia community with a shared future.
Xi Jinping stressed that this year marks the 10th anniversary of his proposal for the principle of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness. China-Cambodia relations are a true embodiment of this principle and China's foreign policy of forging friendship and partnership with its neighbors. China supports Cambodia in pursuing a development path that suits its national conditions, achieving stability and development, and playing an important role on the international and regional stages. The two sides need to maintain high-level exchanges, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, steadfastly advance the "diamond hexagon" cooperation framework, and work for tangible results of the "industrial development corridor" and the "fish-rice corridor" as soon as possible, so as to contribute to respective national modernization. The two sides should continue to promote exchanges and cooperation in such fields as education, culture and youth to make the China-Cambodia friendship more deeply rooted in the hearts of the two peoples.
Norodom Sihamoni said that it was a great honor for him to attend the opening ceremony of the 19th Asian Games in beautiful Hangzhou with his delegation. Noting that China has successfully hosted two Asian Games, Norodom Sihamoni expressed his belief that under the strong leadership of President Xi Jinping, China will again present a spectacular sports event to the world, and make new contributions to promoting unity and friendship of the Asian family. He said that the Cambodian people will always remember the brotherly friendship forged by King Father Norodom Sihanouk with Chinese leaders, cherish the ironclad friendship established between the two countries, and fully agree with the principle of neighborhood diplomacy featuring amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness put forth by President Xi Jinping. Cambodia firmly adheres to the one-China policy and is ready to work with China to jointly pursue Belt and Road cooperation and the building of Cambodia-China community with a shared future.
