Xi Jinping Attends Grand Welcoming Ceremony Held by President Pranab Mukherjee of India

On September 18, 2014, President Xi Jinping, who was in India for a state visit, attended the grand welcoming ceremony held by President Pranab Mukherjee of India in New Delhi.

At 9:00 am local time, Xi Jinping and his wife Mme. Peng Liyuan arrived at the main entrance of the Rashtrapati Bhavan by car. Under the escort of the mighty guard of honor of cavalry, the exclusive car carrying Xi Jinping and his wife headed to the front square of the Rashtrapati Bhavan along the central avenue. The national flags of both China and India were fluttering in the wind, with the bugle being sounded and and a 21-gun salute being fired. The three-service guard of honor and cavalry lined up orderly at the square. Pranab Mukherjee, his daughter and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India warmly welcomed him. Xi Jinping stepped on the reviewing stand, and the guard of honor rifle-saluted to President Xi Jinping. The military band played the national anthems of both China and India. Xi Jinping reviewed the guard of honor. The two heads of state introduced their accompanying personnel to each other.

After the welcoming ceremony, Xi Jinping delivered a speech to the media. Xi Jinping pointed out that as two great ancient civilizations, two largest developing countries and emerging markets, China and India are two important forces in the process of world multi-polarization and the bilateral relations boast strategic significance and global influence. The joint efforts and common development of China and India will bring benefits to the 2.5 billion Chinese and Indian people, offer Asia with prosperity and provide the world with opportunities. This is my first visit to India since I assumed the office of the Chinese President, and I expect to inherit friendship, deepen cooperation and pursue common development through this visit. I am willing to work with the leaders of India to serve as the active promoter of China-India relations and to join efforts to uplift the China-India strategic cooperative partnership for peace and prosperity to a new high.

On the same day, Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan went to the Raj Ghat to lay a wreath.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, and Yang Jiechi were present at above events.
