On September 25, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar of India on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Wang Yi said, China and India are the only two large developing countries in the world with a population of more than 1 billion, and we are important representatives of emerging economies. It is fully in line with the interests of the two countries and the world at large for both countries to strengthen strategic communication, enhance strategic mutual trust, properly control differences, and continue to promote cooperation. Since 2014, President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have met several times. The mutual trust and friendship between Chinese and Indian leaders have been extended to various departments, places and the general public of the two countries, and have been transformed into concrete results of the development in bilateral relations. The Chinese side is willing to work together with the Indian side to consolidate the development momentum of bilateral relations, well prepare for important high-level exchanges in the next stage, and constantly inject new impetus into China-India relations for more stable and better development. The two sides should work together to safeguard peace and stability in the border areas, in a bid to create conditions for the sustained and healthy development of bilateral relations.

Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said, the Indian side attaches great importance to the important high-level exchanges between the two countries in the next stage and is ready to intensify communication with the Chinese side to ensure the complete success of relevant activities and provide guarantee for the future development of India-China relations. The Indian side is willing to work with the Chinese side to properly control differences through dialogue and consultation. It is hoped that both sides will further strengthen cooperation in such aspects as economy, trade and cross-border water resources management.

Wang Yi also reiterated the Chinese side's stance on the current regional situation.
