On March 24, 2020, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a telephone conversation with Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.

Wang Yi said that we are grateful that Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent a letter of condolence to President Xi Jinping at the crucial moment when the Chinese people were fighting against the COVID-19 epidemic, and India also lent a helping hand to the Chinese people. At present, the epidemic outbreak occurred at multiple places in the world, and the number of confirmed cases in India has increased. The Chinese side expresses sincere condolence, makes positive comments on India's anti-epidemic measures and significant results. We believe that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Indian people will properly manage the epidemic and win the battle at an early date. In return for the ever support from India, China as a friendly neighbor, is ready to further sharing with India its experience of containing the disease, and offer help within its capacity.

Wang Yi said that China and India as the world's only two countries with a population of over 1 billion, shall continue to support each other in coping with the epidemic and tiding over this difficult time. China is ready to enhance cooperation with India in multilateral platforms such as G20 and Brics, strengthen unity and coordination in the international community, and safeguard the global and regional public health security.

Dr. Jaishankar briefed Wang Yi about the situation of epidemic prevention and control in India. He said that India has taken comprehensive and strict measures in tireless efforts to control the spread of the epidemic and mitigate the impact on economic development. The Indian side thanks China for offering condolences and assistance in providing medical supply, appreciates China's outstanding achievement in epidemic control and would like to learn from China's experience. The Indian side does not agree with the practice of labeling the virus and thinks that the international community should send a positive signal of solidarity, firmness and strength at such difficult hours of fighting the epidemic together.
