Chinese Ambassador Zhang Yan Visits Gujarat

On August 26, 2011, Chinese Ambassador to India Zhang Yan paid a two-day visit to Gujarat, a west state of India. During the visit, Ambassador Zhang met with Mr. Narendra Modi, Chief Minister of Gujarat, Mayor of Ahmedabad and other government officials, attended the launch of Gujarat Chapter of India-China Economic and Cultural Council (ICEC), delivered a speech at the Presentation on India-China Trade & Investment Opportunities, participated in Green Initiative and visited the local rural villages.

During the meeting, Ambassador Zhang said China will strengthen cooperation with Gujarat and encourage more Chinese enterprises to invest in Gujarat. Mr. Modi said there is a huge potential of cooperation between India and China. He hoped that both sides can expand current trade volume as well as bring opportunities for cooperation in medicine, technology, tourism, and cultural.

Ambassador Zhang also exchanged views on city development with Mayor of Ahmedabad Mr. Asit Vora, Chairman of Standing Committee of Ahmedabad Mr. Bhupenrabhai R. Patel and other officials.

Ambassador Zhang delivered a speech titled "Build a Synergy for Win-Win Cooperation" to a hundred businessmen on launch of ICEC Gujarat Chapter and exchanged views and experience on China-India economic and trade cooperation with them. The entrepreneurs at presence from China and India expressed strong willing to expand mutual investment and promote the development of China-Indian economic and trade cooperation.

Ambassador Zhang also joined in a tree planting with Indian students and attended the opening ceremony of "China-India Green Initiative" which was co-sponsored by the Chinese Embassy in India and ICEC. He planted a tree name after him and tied up the Radio Frequency Identification on the tree which is used to monitor the growth of the plant. He awarded students the certificate of "Vrukshmitra" which means a friend of tree. He encouraged the students to make their own efforts to the long-term development of China-India friendship.

Ambassador Zhang went to the suburbs of Ahmedabad for study of the rural development of Gujarat and visited the social projects of "Self Employed Women's Association" (SEWA). Ambassador Zhang experienced maintenance of the rural wells pump, visited the women's handicraft workshop and talked with the villagers about local rural development. Ambassador Zhang was warmly welcomed by local officials and the public.
